The purpose of the Technician role is to provide laboratory support to the Paving & Roofing Global Laboratory Team anticipating growth in R&D projects. The Technician is expected to perform all duties in a safe manner, to maintain a safe operating environment, to demonstrate healthy behaviors to the work environment and to gain in depth knowledge in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leverage experimental knowledge and demonstrate healthy behaviors to add value to the work environment
  • Set up and conduct laboratory tests and experiments related to Bitumen and Polymer modified Bitumen properties and performance
  • Record results in databases and analyze data, interpret data (raw material selection, formulation preparation, sample preparation, blending, measurements and report data, including writing reports) and inform Manager of any experimental deviations from expected or specified
  • Operate experimental set-up and/or specialized analytical equipment; modify where necessary relevant to specific subject matter
  • Carry out experimental work according to clearly defined safety and environmental guidelines with guidance from supervisor
  • Produce quality data by the agreed upon deadlines
  • Routinely purchase standard laboratory consumables and contribute to laboratory equipment installations and improvements

Required Skills

  • Practical attitude and with at least basic awareness of experimental techniques. Experience with bitumen handling at the laboratory and bitumen and/or polymer testing is valuable.
  • Ability to follow a testing procedure and obtain & organize experimental data according to manager instructions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Capacity to act in proportion to the urgency attributed to each project.
  • Team player with ability to communicate openly with the Global Team on experiments, procedure walk-throughs and results analysis.
  • High sense of safety awareness and responsibility for own working environment and familiarity with relevant health and safety policies with regard to experiments and chemical usage.
  • Basic user skills in Microsoft Office for data treatment and elaborating reports.
  • Verve to set up experimental procedures and/or equipment’s for lab testing and its validation. Ease with equipment failure troubleshooting and problem-solving.

Education, Certifications & Licenses

  • Minimum 1 year relevant (Internship) experience preferred. Higher number of years experience is desirable, and the role will be filled in accordingly

  • Bachelor's Degree (HBO) or vocational education (MBO) with a few years relevant working experience: Mechanical/Materials/Chemical Engineering

  • Requirement: authorized to work in the EU - if not a EU citizen, in possession of a EU work permit
