The Production Engineer is responsible for development and long term strategy implementation within the operating unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with unit manager to develop and execute long-term strategy for K3
  • Identify and prioritize on-going unit performance gap issues and work with the Area Technical Manager to develop plans to resolve those gaps
  • Provides Technical Assurance for change activities within the operating unit
  • Ownership of the unit HSE Management Systems (PSSR Leader, PSS, SOCs, Overpressures, Process Descriptions, and MOC)
  • Ownership of Unit Production / Capacity and Reliability Management Systems
  • Ownership of Unit Quality Management Systems
  • Primary owner for customer complaint resolution
  • Interface for Projects within the Operating Unit
  • Applies technical principles, theories and concepts.
  • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments.
  • Plans and conducts assignments generally involving the larger and more important projects.
  • Able to solve complex operating issues through collaboration with peers, and the assistance of direct reports or next management.
  • Manages small to intermediate project teams.
  • Defines the scope and objectives of projects based on operational needs.
  • Provide direction to junior engineers and evaluates their work.
  • Determine scope, budget and timeline of projects, understanding the profitability impact of projects and manages accordingly.
  • Own the financial results of assigned projects in functional areas and influences others to do the same

Required Skills

  • 4+ years of engineering experience.
  • Knowledge and capability to use advanced systematic and creative problem solving tools.
  • Ability to conduct briefings to senior management.
  • Supervisory training and project management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interface seamlessly with operating technicians, support staff, technical staff, and other aspects of the business such as supply chain and sales.
  • Ability to frame up, prioritize and execute process improvements according to value, cost and risk with limited supervision.
  • Opportunity identification, solution development, cost estimating, field implementation, and technical success within budget for small capital projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of employees to plan, organize and complete multiple programs from inception to start up.
  • Manufacturing experience in an OSHA 1910.119 PSM facility (large quantities of flammable or highly hazardous chemicals) with demonstrated excellent safe work behavior
  • Comfortable functioning in a variety of roles ranging from plant floor troubleshooting and problem solving to leading long term process improvement projects.
  • Polymerization knowledge and experience, especially if in a solvent based system is preferred.
  • Experience with chemical batch processing is preferred.

Education, Certifications & Licenses

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or other related field of study. 
  • Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing experience preferred.   Green Belt or Black Belt certification would be advantageous
