The Senior Scientist will be primarily performing routine scientific work, independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standardized scientific procedures and techniques to projects with clear objectives or investigations with limited variables/complex features.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop chemistries and processing methods for both the production of polymeric coatings at bench-level and in scale-up efforts.
  • Drive the transition of new technologies into product concepts and prototype design.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork with excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to work well on cross-functional R&D teams.
  • A creative problem-solving with a hands-on approach to product development.* Strong leadership and influencing skills to build internal relationships across the business, operations, quality, and R&D teams to facilitate projects involving multiple functional teams and geographic locations.
  •  Routinely document and communicate progress for active projects, initiatives, and other activities through bi-weekly communications, e-mail, and other summary reports, as appropriate.
  •  Provides leadership, coaching, training, and technical direction to the R&D Technicians.

Required Skills

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of polymers, their structure-property relationships, and applications.
  • Research or industrial experience in polymeric liquid coating formulation and processing.
  • Knowledge in industrial web coating, winding, drying, and curing process.
  • Experience in non-woven, woven textile handling, coating, and processing.
  • Optimize processing of solvent and water-based coatings for optimal product consistency, efficiency, and performance.
  • In-depth understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to professional discipline, sufficient enough to follow and influence
  • Ability to direct/refine a research study by advancing new ideas and views
  • Understand the basics of how to apply for a patent
  • Ability to file a Record of Invention
  • Ability to work closely with internal/external customers and establish strong relationships to drive innovation projects

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of and applications experience with styrenic block copolymers, functionalized polymers, and multi-block polymeric architectures and experience in films and nonwovens would be a plus. Experience with multiple printing and coating technologies would be preferred.

Education, Certifications & Licenses

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or Engineering required. 
  • Master's or PhD preferred.
